Call for Papers

The goal of ELFI 2024, the second workshop in a series, is to foster dialogue and collaboration among researchers and developers from different research fields and sectors who are interested in advancing immersive and interactive visual technologies, applications and services.

The workshop covers a broad spectrum of topics: multidimensional signal and data processing, visual computing, optics and visual neuroscience. We warmly welcome researchers from these fields to participate at ELFI 2024. The workshop provides an opportunity for fruitful discussions and feedback on researchers’ ideas and results.

The workshop topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Visual scene sensing and content creation: multi-modal scene capture and reconstruction techniques, multi-camera and multi-sensor settings, volumetric video capture, omni-directional image and video capture, computational plenoptic cameras, light field and holographic capture and modelling, coherent tomography.
  • Models and methods for light field data processing: multi-view image processing, light field representation and parameterization, 3D mesh, texture, point, and volume-based representations, holographic representations, conversion between different scene representations, noise reduction and super-resolution of light fields, light field compression for human and computer vision applications, depth and motion. estimation and analysis, efficient computing architectures for light field processing, new technologies and tools for media production, mixing of virtual and real worlds, noise modeling and denoising of point clouds, machine learning models for inverse problems with rich imaging modalities, mobile computational plenoptics.
  • Vision and visualization: virtual camera systems, light field display technologies for representation and recreation of visual scenes, perceptual modelling and optimization of computational light field displays, holographic display technologies, full parallax systems, computational displays, integral imaging techniques, quality of experience, multimodal experience, interaction with visual content, visual attention, emotional effects, real-time view interpolation for various light field displays.
  • Applications: VR/AR/MR systems, virtual studios, realistic tele-immersion and remote collaboration, light field imaging in virtual heritage and virtual archaeology, immersive and interactive technologies for safety-critical, and medical and biomedical applications, headset removal for gaze contact in XR applications, augmented telepresence for interactive remote actions.

Submission

Prospective presenters are invited to submit two-page extended abstract of their contributions by 15 April 2024. The submitted manuscripts must be in double-column format, including authors’ names and affiliations. Manuscripts will undergo brief review by the TPC Chairs, and the authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present their works at the workshop.

We are going to organize a special section in Journal of Electronic Imaging and will invite the conference presenters to submit full-length manuscripts there. The submitted manuscripts will be peer reviewed following the journal reviewer practices and the review process will be expedited to have the special issue published in the beginning of 2025.

The deadline for the submission of full-length manuscripts is Monday, 7 October 2024.
